How to become a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor:


Joining the Perri-Med Instructional team is easy. Our instructors can teach scheduled courses at the National training centre, or operate independently as a franchise with your own training company. Our training programs provide the instructor with in-depth skills, materials, training products and support.

Starting as a new Perri-Med First Aid Instructor?

If you are new to emergency care training and wish to become a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain a current Standard First Aid certificate from any recognized training agency (see Regulation 1101) and obtain a current Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR basic rescuer (Level C) certificate.
  2. Obtain the Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor course prior to being issued your Perri-Med First Aid Instructor certification.
  3. Register for a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor course by returning the completed course registration form.
  4. Obtain your pre-course instructor package with assignments and prepare for the course. It is recommended that you audit one or more first aid courses prior to the instructor course.
  5. Complete the First Aid Instructor course.
  6. Complete monitoring by a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor Trainer, or "experienced" Instructor while teaching a first aid course.

The 16 hour First Aid Instructor course includes:

Cross Over to Perri-Med First Aid

If you are already a CPR/first aid instructor with another approved organization (see regulation 1101) it is easy to crossover and become a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor.

  1. Contact a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor Trainer to cross-over as a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor.
  2. Provide documentation of your current First Aid Instructor certification.
  3. Obtain the Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor course prior to being issued your Perri-Med First Aid Instructor certification.
  4. Obtain your pre-course instructor package with assignments and prepare for the course. It is recommended that you audit one or more first aid courses prior to the instructor course.
  5. Attend a one day conversion update with a certified Perri-Med First Aid Instructor Trainer
  6. Complete monitoring by a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor Trainer, or "experienced" Instructor while teaching a first aid course.

Growing to become an Instructor Trainer?

Instructor Trainers are certified to train students and Instructors in Perri-Med First Aid Training Programs.

If you have been a current Perri-Med First Aid Instructor for the past 2 years, follow these steps:

  1. Register for a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor course by returning the completed course registration form.
  2. Provide documentation of your current Perri-Med First Aid Instructor certification and Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR I certification.
  3. Obtain your pre-course instructor trainer package with assignments and prepare for the course. It is recommended that you audit one or more first aid instructor courses prior to the instructor trainer course.
  4. Complete the First Aid Instructor Trainer course.
  5. Complete monitoring by a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor Trainer while teaching a first aid instructor course.

The 16 hour First Aid Instructor Trainer course includes:

Crossing over as an Instructor-Trainer?

Are you an Instructor-Trainer of another training program? You can crossover to a Trainer-level Facilitator by completing the three simple steps above. You will be given initial status as an Instructor-level Facilitator and can apply for status as a Trainer-level Facilitator after conducting a minimum of two student-level courses.

Master Instructor Trainer Level

Masters Instructor Trainers are certified to train students, Instructors, and Instructor Trainers in Perri-Med First Aid Training Programs. Experienced Perri-Med First Aid Instructor Trainers may apply to become a Master Instructor Trainer (M.I.T.).

We recommend that Instructors at the Trainer or Master level have appropriate qualifications in Medical/Emergency Medical Services and/or teaching, training, or education. Contact Sales for further information.

How to become a CPR Instructor:

The CPR Instructor course offers the opportunity to teach other the skills, knowledge and regulations required to teach Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR programmes.

If you are new to emergency care training and wish to become a Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain a current Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR basic rescuer (Level C) certificate.
  2. Register for a Perri-Med First CPR Instructor course by returning the completed course registration form.
  3. Obtain your pre-course instructor package with assignments and prepare for the course. It is recommended that you audit one or more CPR courses prior to the instructor course.
  4. Complete the CPR Instructor course
  5. Complete monitoring by one of our Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor Trainers, while teaching a cpr course.

How to become a CPR Instructor Trainer:

The CPR Instructor Trainer course offers the opportunity to teach the skills and knowledge required to become a Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor.

Perri-Med follows the Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor Trainer program. To enroll as a Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor, follow these steps:

  1. Actively teaching as a current Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor for a minimum of one year.
  2. Apply to the Emergency Cardiac Care Department of the Heart & Stroke Foundation (see link here).
  3. Register for a Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor Trainer course by contacting the Heart & Stroke Foundation, ECC Department.
  4. Obtain your pre-course instructor package with assignments and prepare for the course.
  5. Complete the CPR Instructor Trainer course
  6. Complete monitoring by one of our Heart & Stroke Foundation Emergency Cardiac Care Representatives.

Want to become a W.H.M.I.S. Instructor?

The W.H.M.I.S. Instructor course offers the opportunity to train employees about the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. Each worker has the right to know information about hazardous chemicals in the workplace. If you wish to become a Perri-Med W.H.M.I.S. Instructor, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain a current WHMIS provider certificate from any recognized training agency
  2. Register for a Perri-Med W.H.M.I.S. Instructor course by returning the completed course registration form.
  3. Obtain your pre-course instructor package with assignments and prepare for the course. It is recommended that you audit one or more W.H.M.I.S.courses prior to the instructor course.
  4. Complete the W.H.I.M.I.S. Instructor course.
  5. Complete monitoring by a Perri-Med First Aid Instructor Trainer while teaching a W.H.M.I.S. course.

The Oxygen Instructor course offers the opportunity to teach other the skills, knowledge and regulations required to teach Oxygen provider programmes. If you wish to become a Perri-Med Oxygen Instructor, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain a current Oxygen provider certificate from any recognized training agency
  2. Provide documentation of your current Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor certification
  3. Register for a Perri-Med Oxygen Instructor course by returning the completed course registration form.
  4. Obtain your pre-course instructor package with assignments and prepare for the course. It is recommended that you audit one or more Oxygen provider courses prior to the instructor course.
  5. Complete the Oxygen Instructor course.
  6. Complete monitoring by a Perri-Med Oxygen Aid Instructor Trainer while teaching an oxygen provider course.

Want to become a Public Access Defibrillation Instructor?

The Defibrillation Instructor course instructs and provides the required Physician delegation and certification to teach responders the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in a corporate or workplace on-site defibrillator program. Course standards are approved by Mecontrol Consultants Incorporated, under the medical direction of J.C. Fedoruk, BA, LLB,MD, CCFP (EM), FACEP, FCLM. If you wish to become a Perri-Med Defibrillation Instructor, follow these steps:

  1. Provide documentation for the following current certifications: Perri-Med First Aid Instructor, Heart & Stroke Foundation CPR Instructor and current Public A Access Defibrillation provider certification.
  2. Register for a Perri-Med Defibrillation Instructor course by returning the completed course registration form.
  3. Obtain your pre-course instructor package with assignments and prepare for the course. It is recommended that you audit one or more Oxygen provider courses prior to the instructor course.
  4. Complete the Defibrillation Instructor course.
  5. Complete monitoring by a Perri-Med Defibrillation Instructor Trainer while teaching an defibrillation provider course.
